Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-04-25
1. Who we are
"Stratum APIs", "we", "us" refers to the operator of the platform at stratumapis.com and its associated APIs. You can reach us at support@stratumapis.com.
2. The service
Stratum APIs sells programmatic access to verification and enrichment APIs built on UK public data. Each API has its own pricing tier, included call quota, and feature list, set out on the API's product page and in the price you select at checkout.
The service is provided on a subscription basis (monthly, billed in advance) unless a different model is explicitly agreed. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your API keys confidential. We only ever store the hash of an issued key, so a lost key cannot be recovered, only revoked and reissued. You are responsible for any usage made under a key issued to you, including usage that occurs before you revoke a leaked key.
You must be at least 18 years old and authorised to enter into this agreement on behalf of the entity using the service.
4. Acceptable use
Your use of the service is also governed by our Acceptable Use Policy. We may suspend or terminate your access without notice if we reasonably believe your use breaches that policy or risks the integrity of the platform or its upstream data sources.
5. Fees, billing, and refunds
Tier fees are charged in advance each billing period via Stripe. Overage charges (where applicable) are billed at the next billing cycle. All prices are quoted in GBP and exclude VAT, which is added where required by UK law.
You can cancel your subscription at any time from the billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we do not pro-rate refunds for unused time within a billing period. We may, at our discretion, refund a recent charge if you believe it was made in error; contact support@stratumapis.com.
Failed payments may result in suspension of API access. We will attempt to notify you by email before suspending.
6. Service availability
We target 99.9% monthly uptime, governed by the underlying SLAs of AWS API Gateway, AWS Lambda, and Amazon DynamoDB on which the service runs. Customers on the Pro tier benefit from a contractual 99.9% uptime commitment. Other tiers receive a target commitment without service credits.
Planned maintenance, force majeure events, customer-induced incidents, and upstream data source outages (FCA, SRA, Companies House and similar) are excluded from uptime calculations.
7. Data, sources, and accuracy
Our APIs aggregate, normalise, and enrich data from UK regulators and public bodies. The original data is owned by those bodies and is provided through their public channels. We make reasonable efforts to keep responses accurate and current, but we do not warrant that responses are free from errors, complete, or fit for any particular purpose. You should treat API responses as one input into your own decision-making, not as a substitute for it.
For regulated activity (KYC, KYB, AML, clinical credentialling), you remain responsible for the regulatory compliance of your own process. The audit-log feature is provided to help you evidence your checks; it is not legal advice and does not transfer regulatory responsibility to us.
8. Intellectual property
The Stratum APIs platform, software, brand, documentation, and aggregated/normalised schemas are our intellectual property. You receive a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the API responses in your own products and workflows for the duration of your subscription.
You may not redistribute or resell raw API responses as a competing dataset or API product, or use them to train a model intended to replicate the service. Caching of responses for performance within your application is permitted.
9. Confidentiality
Both parties will treat as confidential any non-public information shared in the course of using the service, including your API keys and our pricing terms where not publicly listed.
10. Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability to you under or in connection with this agreement is capped at the fees paid by you in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, special, consequential, or pure economic loss, including lost profits, lost business, or loss of data.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by UK law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or for fraudulent misrepresentation.
11. Termination
Either party may terminate the agreement on 30 days' notice. We may terminate immediately for material breach (including breach of the Acceptable Use Policy or non-payment) or for legal compliance reasons. On termination, your access to the API ceases and we will delete or anonymise your operational data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be notified by email to the address on your account at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising under or in connection with them.
